ペンタックスリコーイメージングは、防水・耐衝撃性能を持つコンパクトデジタルカメラ『PENTAX Optio WG-2』を3月9日に発売する。同社は、アウトドアのさまざまな場面でタフに使用できる本格的な防水・防塵性能や耐衝撃性能を備えたコンデジとして「Optio W」シリーズを展開しており、本モデル昨年3月にHOYA（当時）が発売した「Optio WG-1 GPS」および「Optio WG-1」の後継モデルに当たる。
従来機の水深10mまでから、水深12mまでの水中撮影が可能となり、防水性能を強化。さらに、1.5mからの耐落下衝撃性能やホコリに強いIP6X（JIS保護等級6）相当の防塵性能、マイナス10℃でも動作が可能な耐寒構造、100kgfまでの重さに耐える耐荷重構造などを備え、タフネス構造に磨きをかけているのが大きな特徴。
レンズは35mm判換算で約28～140mm相当の画角を持ち、F値はF3.5(W)～F5.5(T)。光学5倍ズームを搭載する。レンズの周りには近距離用のLED補助光を6灯（従来は5灯）配置しているのも特徴。被写体を大きく拡大して、肉眼では気づかないようなミクロの世界を液晶モニターで観察、撮影できる“デジタル顕微鏡”モード使用時に、より均一で明るい照明が可能だ。このLEDは、撮影の瞬間に光量をアップして、より高速なシャッタースピードで手ぶれや被写体ぶれを抑えて撮影できる“瞬間輝度アップ”の性能も備えている。さらに暗い場所で手元の照明として利用できる。
撮像素子には高感度、低ノイズ特性に優れ、画像信号の高速な読み出しが可能な裏面照射型のCMOSイメージセンサーを新たに採用。有効約1,600万画素で、最高ISO感度は6400となる。さらに、新型の画像処理エンジンによる“超解像”技術を応用した画像処理機能によって、解像感に優れたクリアな高画質画像を実現するとしている他、一度に4枚の画像を撮影、合成してぶれの少ない画像を作る“手持ち夜景”モードも新採用した。
背面液晶は画素数約46万ドットの3.0型へと大型化されており、外光の反射を抑えて映り込みを軽減するAR（Anti-Reflection）コートが施された。これによって日差しの強い屋外でも、明るく画面を確認しやすいという。また、上下左右それぞれ約170°の広視野角タイプで、画像を斜めから見たときの確認も容易となった。
また、GPSを搭載した『PENTAX Optio WG-2 GPS』も同時にラインナップしている。新型のGPSモジュールを搭載し、測位を開始するまでの時間を短縮するとともに、ログ機能使用時の電池寿命も大幅に改善するなど、性能の向上が図られている。
過酷なアウトドア環境下での使いやすさと信頼性をより一層高め、高画質な撮影を気軽に楽しめそうな一台だ。
